Breaking News: Sean Sherlock Promises to Publish Draft Online

Posted in: Campaign Updates by admin on January 26, 2012 | 10 Comments

Originally published at 11:09 AM:

In an interview with TJ McIntyre and Sean Sherlock just concluded on Today with Pat Kenny, the minister has promised to publish the most recent draft of the SI (the is the one nobody has yet seen!) within one hour. Regardless of the content of the draft, this is a significant victory for transparency in the legislature that has been won because of public pressure brought to bear by all 45,361 of you. Thank you!

12:09 PM update:

On hold with the Dept of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to see where the promised SI wording is available. #SOPAireland –@Tupp_Ed

12:13 PM update:

The Department confirms the wording of the law isn’t ready. It’s still being worked on, they say. They will email when done. #SOPAireland –@Tupp_Ed

[Note: Tupp_Ed is the Twitter account of Simon McGarr of this campaign.]

12:45 PM update:

The Journal has the full text online. We will update with our response when we’ve had time to read and review.

1:00 PM update:

TJ McIntyre and Simon McGarr are in Leinster House with a copy of the SI provided by the Department. As it apparently takes not one but two lawyers to parse, we await their update.

2:15 PM update:

“The SI draft just published is effectively unchanged”

Indecent haste makes BAD law. I am not surprised, promises of political reform in Ireland have been a joke.

Just had a read of that draft. An awful piece of work, much to vague.

The only people benefitting from this are the corporate companys saying us everyday internet users are infringing there rights. What about us? They just don’t care about the people in everyday life. The needs of many outweight the few. They will be ruining peoples livelihoods if this goes through. We will have no web based industries anymore as no company will wanna start business here. Ridiculous!!!!
